Kovaa vauhtia on Diisun tila edennyt!

Diesel's sperm and testicles were examined last spring. He was expecting a bitch from abroad to visit but the last time the bitch did not get pregnant and we wanted be sure it was worth it to try again. Good thing we went to examinations. It turned out that Diesel's sperm count was very low and the sperm quality was very bad. These two combined made him sterile in practise. It also appeared that he had granulomas in both testicles. What was the cause of these reproductive problems was not certain. He was tested negative for Brucella. Maybe he has had an infection of the testicles or some virus at some point of his life? We can't know.

We made the decision to neuter him later this year. With abnormalities in testicles there is always the risk of cancer developing and I don't want that.

Today was the day. I told the vet about the abnormal findings last spring and he promised to examine the testicles after surgery. The surgery went very well. When we returned to pick up Diesel we found his testicles, sliced in halfs, set up nicely on a white napkin on the table.  :-D
The vet showed us how the epididymis in both testicles was deteriorated - there was not much left of it in either one. Epididymis is where the sperm cells mature and are stocked. Both testicles suffered of atrophy and were quite small. The tissue of the testicles was abnormal. One granuloma  was visible and it was bigger than last spring.
Good thing we did not wait any longer! Diesel's condition has progressed quite rapidly. I don't think he has had any pain though. And it seems there was not yet any cancer.

Diesel woke up enough to walk into the car and then into the house. He was very strongly sedated and drunk. He passed out in the living room stairs on the way to "his" room. An hour later he managed to move on 2 more meters before passing out again. But he did make it to his room for the night.
